10 Fun Fall Reading Activities for Every Book Lover!
Fall is the perfect time to cozy up under a blanket and read. Some of my favorite fall traditions involve reading. Here I have compiled a list of 10 fun fall reading activities!

The leaves are starting to turn beautiful shades of orange, red, yellow, and brown. There is a crisp, cool breeze in the air. The days are beginning to get shorter. All of the wonderful signs of autumn. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year. I look forward to spending time with family and friends and being thankful for everything that I have.
To celebrate the season I also enjoy doing the traditional fall activities like picking pumpkins, decorating the house, and making pies. Along with those I always like to include reading. It is the perfect time of year to pick up a good mystery or romance and snuggle under your favorite blanket on the couch. Now, doesn’t that sound marvelous!
Last weekend I spent the three days I had off decorating and taking in the slight change in the weather. Now that slight change didn’t last very long as we quickly went back into our 90 – 100 degrees Southern California weather soon after, but it was nice while it lasted and has given me hope that we will soon experience the cool fall weather! I was able to cross out two items off of my bucket list and I was so excited!
Fall Reading Bucket List
For the rest of October and into November I will be working through my fall reading bucket list. I case you haven’t created your fall bucket list yet or are looking for some new fall traditions, I want to share with you some of the activities I will be participating in!
1. Plan a fall picnic with a cozy book

Who doesn’t like picnics? Picnics are not just for spring and summer. Fall picnics are so much fun, especially when you can bring along an extra blanket to wrap around you and open a good book.
2. Drink a pumpkin spice latte and read at a coffee shop

Oh, pumpkin spice lattes, how I love you! I look forward to the day that pumpkin everything makes a comeback at the stores. There is something so comforting about the spicy aroma and the atmosphere it creates. I am looking forward to heading to my local coffee shop to savor the fall flavors and read.
3. Decorate the house for fall and curl up under a blanket to read

Putting up the fall decorations makes me just as happy as putting out Christmas decorations. It turns the house into a warm, welcoming, and cozy atmosphere. Once I finish decorating, I take out my book and curl up on the couch to relax and enjoy it.
4. Carve a pumpkin to look like a character in your favorite book

Who doesn’t like to carve pumpkins!? Thinking about it brings back so many fond memories of my childhood. We would go to our local pumpkin patch down the street and then come home and sit on the front porch to carve them. Now, this was something we did pretty close to Halloween, as the pumpkin would rot in our hot California weather if we did it too early! It was so much fun! This year I am challenging myself to find a stencil and carve one of my favorite book characters in Outlander. It will be a surprise!
5. Donate books to your local library, school, or anywhere in need
I have been very fortunate throughout my life and I feel it is important to give back whenever I can. As I go through my bookshelf to clear out the books I don’t want to keep, I take them to the local public libraries, schools, or shelters where they are in need of so many things. I hope to inspire others to read and enjoy the wonderful stories that are out there.
6. Sleep in and snuggle under the covers with a good book

Saturdays were made for sleeping in and cuddling! Once the weather starts to cool down it can be a challenge for me to get out of bed. All I want to do is stay put and cuddle under the covers and read! So of course this will be included on my bucket list!
7. Make a fall-themed bookmark with pressed leaves.

Bookmarks are something I can always use. I am often reading more than one book at a time. Making a fall-themed bookmark is perfect for the season! Find some of your favorite fall leaves, press them between the pages of a heavy book, and then laminate to make them into a bookmark!
8. Burn a fall scented candle and read in a comfy chair
Pumpkin scented candles make the who house feel like fall. Pair that with a book and you have the perfect lazy morning.
9. Read a spooky Halloween book

For my spooky Halloween book, I will be reading V.E. Schwab’s new release The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue. I have been looking forward to reading this book for so long! It will be the perfect book for the month of October!
10. Read a book about gratitude, giving thanks, or positivity

During this time of the year, we are often thinking of gratitude and giving thanks. This is something that we should be thinking about year-round, but nevertheless, it is part of what makes the season special. Every year at this time I like to read a book about gratitude. Depending on how I am feeling I can read either fiction or nonfiction. This year I am planning to read, Our Thoughts Determine Our Lives: The Life and Teachings of Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica. It will be the perfect book to curl up with on a cool fall evening in November to reflect on how important our mindset is.
A Bucket List for each season
I like to create bucket lists for each season to mix things up and make the year seem special. This is especially important this year with all of the craziness we have had to endure so far in 2020. I am looking forward to checking off each of these from my fall reading bucket list! So far, I have done two and am actively working on completing it within the next two months.
