How to Use a Bullet Journal to Organize Your Time

Are you thinking about starting a bullet journal? Are you wondering what a bullet journal is? I want to share with you how this amazing system can help you finally organize your time. You will find that staying organized will allow you more time to spend with those that mean the most to you. Who wouldn’t want to do more of the things they love?!
I first came across a bullet journaling when I was in my teacher credential program a few years ago. One of my friends in the class said she was “making a note in her bullet journal.” At this point, I had never heard about a bullet journal and was wondering what she was talking about. My friend gave me a quick explanation about bullet journaling and needless to say, I was intrigued. I had been struggling with productivity and knew that soon I would be in my own classroom. I would need to find a way to stay organized or chaos would erupt!
As soon as we were done with our group meeting, I pulled up google and searched for “bullet journal.” And it all began there. I clicked on the link to the first website that came up and started to read about the bullet journal system.
So you may be asking… “what is a bullet journal?”
First, let me say, I did not create the bullet journal system and do not own any part of it. The Bullet Journal is a productivity/analog system that was designed by Ryder Carroll. You can check out the official Bullet Journal Website here. You will use this system in a standard notebook or journal. Typically a dot grid notebook is used, but really any notebook will work. That is the beauty of it!

Your blank journal will hold a few key elements that help you organize and plan your tasks and projects. The bullet journal consists of an index, a future log, a monthly log, and daily logs. From there, the system can be customized to fit your life and your needs. By adding additional collections of things you want to keep track of, such as habits and goals, you can tailor the bullet journal system to meet all of your needs.
Let’s start at the beginning!
Index:
The index is kind of like the table of contents at the beginning of a book. It will be the area that you use to keep track of everything in your journal. You will write the page number and then list what is on that page. This way you will be able to find all of the important information you have in your journal.
Future Log:
The Future Log collection is a big overview of the year. You list all of the tasks you have to outside of the current month you are in. At the end of each month, you look at your future log to see what tasks or events are coming up that need to be moved into your Monthly Log. That leads us to the next collection!

Monthly Log:
The monthly log is your overview of each month. You make a calendar for the month and then all of the special tasks and events that you know of. As more things come up you add it to your monthly log.

Daily Log:
Following each Monthly Log, you will create your “Daily Logs.” This is the spot to put your to-do lists, events, and notes for each individual day. The daily log does not confine you to the normal boxes and spaces in the traditional planner. I don’t know about you, but I never really used all of the spaces provided in those regular planners. At least not every day. Some days are slower than others and the bullet journal system is adaptable to meet your individual needs on a yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily basis.
Other Collections:
There are lots of other collections that you can include in your bullet journal. The ones above are simply the frame. From there you can try out new things and made collections for anything that you need to keep track of. Some other ideas are habit trackers, daily gratitude logs, and health trackers, business trackers, and the list goes on!

You can tailer this system to work perfectly for you!
In Conclusion
If you have tried all sorts of planners and systems for organizing your time, but have found they fell short, you are in the right place. The bullet journal can help you organize your time and will change your life for the better. I hope I have inspired you to give it a try!
